About The Event
This adult workshop has been created to give you the skills to inspire young people to make music outdoors. We will give you the confidence to make sounds with children, keeping things simple and getting back to the basics of what music is. You will be encouraged to listen, make sounds with your body and utilise the wealth of resources we find in the woodland. We will give you a tool box of ideas to inspire and engage the children in your care.
Prior to booking please ensure you read and agree to our terms & conditions
We meet in Shining Cliff Wood. Please see here for details of how to find us
We will follow the Forest School ethos to learn. From the seed of an idea, through to group discussion and exploration you will be encouraged to explore the world of sounds in whatever way you choose. We believe there is no better place to learn than outdoors and will spend the whole day in the woods. During the morning we will play games, explore sounds and learn about the wonderful world of natural music. The afternoon will give you the opportunity to use a variety of tools to explore different natural materials and create instruments of your own design.
Bringing music back into our lives not only lifts the soul but is imperative for our children’s development. If you want to inspire the next generation of confident, resilient and creative thinkers we believe encouraging creativity is a good place to start.

This course is for anyone who would like the skills and the confidence to use music more with children. If you are a teacher, parent, Forest School practitioner or anyone who spends time with children then this course is for you. No musical experience is required just an open mind and a keenness to explore sounds. Alternatively if you would like us to bring the course to your setting please get in touch.
A simple lunch of bread and a hearty soup cooked on the fire is included plus plenty of refreshments throughout the day.
We will run rain or shine so please come prepared. You never know what the good old British weather will throw at us so full waterproofs and plenty of layers are advisable. We encourage people of all abilities but a certain level of fitness is required to explore the woodland and to use tools. There may be sitting or lying on the floor required so if you need please bring a kneeling pad.
The course will be lead by Jennie Lindop who is a freelance French Horn player and professional music educator. Jennie believes music should be accessible to all. She brings an innovative way of learning to students of all ages giving them a deeper understanding and enjoyment of music. Kerry Gill from Woodlanders Forest School will support throughout the day brining her expertise of the natural world and the Forest School approach to help guide you.
We look forward to seeing you in the woods!
