Our sessions are held in the beautiful ancient woodland of Shining Cliff Wood near Ambergate in Derbyshire. The woodland is owned and manged by the Grith Pioneers who kindly give us permission to use the woodland.
We strive to tread lightly to cause minimal impact to the woodland. We take everything we need into the woodland with us. This gives us great flexibility to follow the childrens interests and also reduce our impact on the woodland. We have use of a fire site to practice our fire lighting and cooking skills.
If you'd like to explore Shining Cliff Wood take a look at my article in Boom magazine.
How to find us
We meet in Shining Cliff Woods and walk to our chosen spot for the session. Please have a look at the map for the exact location and directions of how to find us below.
From Belper head north on the A6 to Ambergate. In Ambergate 100m after the petrol station turn left between St Anne's Church and the cricket ground onto Holly Lane. Follow this lane for 1.4 miles (past 2 farms) until you reach a cottage on your right and some farm buildings on your left. Turn right along the side the cottage. There is a small white sign directing you to the right for "Shining Cliff". Go through the gate (prop it open with a stick!) Please close the gate behind you. Follow the track for 300m until you reach the parking area at the end of the track. Parking is tight, please be mindful to get as many cars in as possible while keeping good access to all the tracks. If you would prefer to walk there is a pull in in front of the cottage and you can walk along the track. Please leave an extra 10 minutes to allow for the walk in.
